Here’s the deal. Rock Soap Opera, the compelling daily drama starring rocks is on the hunt for its next star, and we asked you to audition your own characters. We received some amazing entries; many truly inspired, some hideously deranged. The judges have deliberated, cogitated and digested your offering, and decided on their choices of finalists. I’ve decided to throw in a wildcard finalist also, because, well, it’s my birthday soon and I feel like breaking the rules.
1. Zee Kane – Editor-in-chief of The Next Web, one of the biggest tech publications on the internet, big cheese, and passionate consumer of all things web.
“I vote for Harry Rocker, who wouldn’t want to see Harry work his ‘magic’ the only way Harry Rocker could. With Harry in the picture, there’s really no telling where things could end up.”
2. Kim Taylor Bennett – TV and print journalist, frequently found chasing stars down the red carpet, offering razor wit on the BBC, and staff writer-ing at Time Out.
“I’m plumping for Sally and Scarlet Scallop because twins are inherently fascinating, a minefield of genetic complexity and emotional turmoil. When it’s not them against the world, I’m sure Sally and Scarlet’s relationship is fraught with jealousy and one-upmanship. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. Matt and Luke Goss. Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield (Sweet Valley High). And how can we forget Gayle and Gillian Blakeney from Neighbours? It’s inevitable that after downing one too many WKDs, the fake-tanned, hussy-in-waiting Sally will end up shacking up with Scarlet’s hot piece of boulder. He’ll feign innocence, claiming Sally’s full of it, but the tell-tale orange marks around his private piece of sediment will prove evidence enough.”
3. Stuart Heritage – Editor of Hecklerspray and fearsome Guardian columnist, Stu confronts nonsense and triviality on a daily basis, and so should be right at home here.
“A daring twist on a well-loved classic, like the Dirty Martini or the Spork. Yes, Stick Rock is a rock, but also a stick. Why? For me, Stick Rock signifies the perfect juxtaposition of unthinking brawn and playful intelligence. A genuine geological wild card; maybe we’ll never get to the bottom of this unfathomable enigma.”
You can’t spell “Ginger” without “in”, or “gin”. That’s not a reason for including her, as much as just a fact. Not quite sure where I’m going with this. Anyway, Ginger seems like she shares much of the characteristics of her ingredient namesake: she’s fiery and exotic, with strong roots. She’d be quite the femme fatale…
Cast your votes for the winner! Remember the winner will become a Season 2 cast member and receive awesome prizes. Runners up too win prizes! Voting closes June 30th with the winner announced on July 1st. Good luck!
